Hello! My name is Theresa Hickman, the proud owner of Mother Doves Academy. During the day, I am a primary-age special education teacher for Chicago Public School. In the evening, I am an entrepreneur, an author, and an active servant of the community, impacting the lives of others. I am also an active and financial member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. I am a proud graduate of Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a graduate from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) where I received my teaching certificate, a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership and an ESL endorsement. I specialize in Early Childhood Special Education. In addition, I am a graduate from National Louis University obtaining my Masters of Curriculum and Instruction with an LBS1 endorsement. I grew up on the Southside of Chicago and I currently reside in the Bronzeville area. I have been teaching for 11 years with primary-age students and working with children for over 15 years. I am a very loyal, compassionate, determined, and devoted person who has the desire to teach and help influence the next generation of leaders. I enjoy working with young children because I believe they are our future and they deserve to learn. My time is well spent giving of myself for the greater good of others. Someone once quoted, “A good teacher is like a candle- it consumes itself to light the way for others” and this is one value that I hold very close to my heart.
